About the Scholarship

Being creative today takes courage.

The courage to share your ideas, express yourself honestly, and continue creating even when the path forward feels uncertain.

The Cedar Bean’s Creative Courage Scholarship was created to support graduating Essex County seniors pursuing creative futures in the arts.

Through a percentage of sales from Cedar Bean’s monthly artist exhibitions — along with direct contributions from Cedar Bean’s Coffee Joint and our patrons — we are proud to award a $1,000 scholarship to a student demonstrating creativity, passion, originality, and artistic courage.

Whether your work lives in painting, photography, filmmaking, illustration, design, digital media, writing, or another creative discipline, we encourage you to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be a graduating high school senior in Essex County during the 2025–2026 academic year
Demonstrate passion and involvement in a creative field through coursework, independent projects, performances, exhibitions, or personal work
Plan to pursue continued education or professional development in a creative field after graduation
Submit a completed application and all required materials

Scholarship Award

One student will receive a $1,000 scholarship supporting their creative and educational future.

Letter of Recommendation (Section 4)
